Exploring Law & Government Careers

Why Join?  Exploring is a coed career exploration program for teenagers.  Our Post will help you learn about the many opportunities that exist in law and government.  Guest speakers include practicing attorneys, judges, elected officials, and lobbyists.  We also will meet with law school administrators and students, who will discuss the admissions process and provide guidance on how to succeed in law school.

Open House on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 - We will have an Open House for prospective members and their parents at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the law offices of Ogletree Deakins, 300 North Meridian Street, Suite 2700, Indianapolis, IN 46204.

When Do We Meet, and What Do We Do? We will generally meet on the second Tuesday of each month from October 2024 through May 2025.  In addition, we will offer you opportunities to observe online and in-person court hearings that occur during the day.  We also are working on identifying additional individual/small group experiential opportunities outside of our formal meetings, including shadowing opportunities.

Registration Fee.  Exploring is a program operated by Scouting BSA, and our Post is affiliated with the Crossroads of America Council (CAC).  The CAC/BSA registration fee for Exploring for the 2024-25 school year is $62.  We do not want the registration fee to be a barrier to participation and will provide scholarship assistance to any family that requests it.

Open House Parking:

We will validate parking in the Central Park parking garage located at 301 North Illinois Street (northeast corner of Illinois and New York streets), which is one block west of the 300 North Meridian Street building (northwest corner of Meridian and New York streets).  Illinois Street is one-way going north, so you will want to be in the right hand lane to enter the garage.

Take your parking ticket with you from the garage.  Once you leave the garage, walk east on New York Street.  You can enter the 300 North Meridian Street building from the New York Street entrance.   We will provide you with a validation receipt with a QR code before you leave our monthly meeting.  You will need to scan both your ticket and the QR Code at the parking garage entry level kiosk on New York Street before returning to your car to leave the garage.
