Star Seekers - Pre Mentoring for 8th graders

Pre-mentoring program created for 8th graders to begin their journey toward college and career success. This program offers engaging workshops, team activities, and early guidance on high school readiness while introducing students to the Starfish community.

Exp: 100825

As part of Star Seekers, students complete fun and meaningful assignments such as researching a dream career or college, creating a high school survival guide, building a personal vision board, planning a small community service project, or interviewing a professional about their career path. These activities help 8th graders discover their interests, build confidence, and practice real-world skills.

By participating, students gain valuable experience, explore their goals, and prepare for the chance to become full Starfish scholars and be matched with a mentor when they enter 9th grade.

The mission of Starfish Initiative is to inspire, encourage, and prepare motivated high school students from the most vulnerable populations for college, career, and life success through one-on-one mentoring. Starfish Initiative is a post-secondary education-focused mentoring program in Marion County specifically for students who have enrolled in the Indiana 21st Century Scholars program. During the four-year Starfish Experience, Starfish Scholars receive continuous guidance and one-on-one support from individually matched, “college and career coach” Mentors who meet with their Scholar on a bi-monthly basis. Starfish Mentors supported by Starfish Match Specialists help each Scholar to effectively prepare for personal and academic success by promoting their active participation in the three core essentials (3Cs) of the Starfish model: 1) College Readiness and Success; 2) Career Exploration; and 3) Character Development.
