Next Generation Wildlife Advocates

Wolf Park’s Next Generation Wildlife Advocates Program is designed to provide an immersive learning and volunteer experience for high schoolers aged 14-17 interested in pursuing a career in wildlife.

This 8-week program encompasses eight exciting educational modules, opportunities to contribute to new and existing volunteer projects, and the development of a personal wildlife advocacy project and a group advocacy project. Students will gain an introductory knowledge of wolves, foxes, bison, various special topics, and career paths in the field of wildlife conservation. Advocacy is a theme throughout the program and students will learn how to effectively advocate for wolves and other imperiled species. This program will also help prepare students for internships at wildlife facilities.

Educational Modules: Introduction to Wolf Park, Wolves 101, Foxes 101, Bison 101, Wildlife Research, Wildlife Conservation, Positive Reinforcement Training, and Careers in Wildlife Possible

Volunteer Projects: planting and watering native seedlings, planting or maintaining pollinator gardens, invasive plant removal, creating enrichment for the animal ambassadors, trail and enclosure maintenance, and making pollinator seed bombs

Personal and Group Projects: Students will work on a personal and group project aimed to develop a skillset in effective advocacy for wildlife.

Wolf Park is 20 minutes from Lafayette and 15 minutes from Purdue University's campus (West Lafayette). We are about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Indianapolis and 2 1/2 hours from Chicago. There are plenty of hotels in the area to choose from, as well as several activities for families to do while they are here. Families can visit the Columbian Park Zoo, Prophetstown State Park, or Happy Hollow Park, to name a few. We do not provide a place to stay or transportation.
