Marion County Commission On Youth Impact Team

The Impact Team is a partnership between MCCOY (Marion County Commission on Youth), and various community organizations. It serves two primary functions: training young people in leadership skills and providing structured volunteer opportunities. This will increase youth engagement and empower young people to practice civic responsibility.

Impact Team Focus? 

Impact Team members will participate in a leadership and volunteer training session. The Impact Team will also experience Indianapolis through community service and volunteer opportunities and explore various organizations and community events while also building friendships as well as connections with organizations and non-profits throughout the city of Indianapolis and Central Indiana 

Impact Team structure: 

  • Participate in skill building - Complete leadership and volunteer training. 

  • Compiled a list of organizations for volunteer opportunities and a volunteer completion form to be filled out by representative of organization services. 

  • Will have to complete 24 service hours each school year to receive a letter of recommendation. At the end of each quarter, those who have completed at least 4 hours of volunteering will be able to participate in a celebration of their efforts. Celebrations will be held in January, April, July, and October. 

  • Suggestion 4 hours of service quarterly to participate in celebrations. 

Impact Team members are required to: 

  • Live and attend school in Marion County and surrounding counties. 

  • Be between the ages of 12 and 19. 

  • Complete 24 service hours (4 hours per quarter) over the course of the school year, starting in July – December and January – June. 

  • Adhere to a code of conduct and leadership training course.  

  • Complete service and leadership training. 

Who is a good candidate for the Impact Team? 

Any student who meets the requirements above and has a passion for making the city a better place. The Impact Team members will be intentionally selected to reflect diverse perspectives.

  • Animal shelters 

  • Hospitals 

  • Food Pantries 

  • Senior living centers 

  • Charity Organizations 

  • Schools 

  • Churches 

  • Teen Courts 

  • And more organizations… 

What are the primary goals for the IMPACT TEAM? 

The intended outcomes for the impact team include (a.) increased youth engagement and civic involvement in Indianapolis, (b.) the development of personal, life, and workplace skills in the youth participants, and (c.) a more positive view of youth and their capabilities and capacities by adults. 

  • Gaining work experience that could be used for college and future careers. 

  • Helping others 

  • Improving your community 

  • Connecting with possible volunteer and career opportunities for their future.
