VolunTEEN @ Eskenazi

The VolunTEEN program places an emphasis on health care career development, college preparation and volunteer service, while providing insight into positions in healthcare, such as nursing, medicine, therapy, as well as administrative roles like finance, communications and clinical management.

Applications for the annual summer VolunTEEN program, begin Monday, February 1, 2024. No longer accepting applications.

Teenagers 14 - 19 years old (must be 14 by Friday, April 12, 2024), who are interested in a career in health care, can apply for the annual summer VolunTEEN program, beginning Monday, February 1, 2024.

Teens will hear from a variety of clinical and non-clinical professionals, giving them the opportunity to gain a greater knowledge of careers in health care and the operations of a community focused health system.

The VolunTEEN program will provide shadowing and volunteer experiences for students on a path to becoming health care professionals.

Eskenazi Health Volunteer Services is offering three, 2 week, summer sessions, participants may choose one of the three sessions. Each session will provide the same experience including an orientation to Eskenazi Health, leadership training, CPR & First Aid Certification, tours, panel discussions and a variety of predetermined shadowing experiences.

Sessions 1:    Monday – Friday, June 3-14, 2024, 9am – 1pm

Session 2:     Monday – Friday, June 17-28, 2024, 9am – 1pm

Session 3:     Monday – Friday, July 8 – 19, 2024, 9am – 1pm

Applicants are required to complete a professional online application, available at www.eskenazihealth.edu/volunteen. First time teen applicants must also submit a minimum 500-word essay. This essay should discuss the applicants’ aspirations to work in health care, plans to achieve their goals and how participating in the VolunTEEN program will help them in their endeavors. Essays and a current transcript of grades must be received by Eskenazi Health Volunteer Services no later than Friday, April 12, 2024, by 5pm (EST).  Applicants will be notified of status by April 26, 2024.

Selected participants will be required to submit to an Occupational Health screening provided by Eskenazi Health Occupational Health.  The mandatory health screening is conducted at Eskenazi Health Occupational Health (free of charge) includes a QuantiFERON Tuberculosis Blood Tests and an immunization verification (teens must provide copies of their immunization records).
